Researching different types of music magazines in general
These magazines are from Billboard showing lots of different types of musics. I am especially going to focus on House Music which I am going to take inspiration how it is laid out from Billboard music magazine. I really like the way they kept every thing simple which is very easy to read and is attractive so I am going to produce in a similar way but in House music.
These are both House music magazine and I like the way they have put all the main stuff on the front cover so that readers can see what kind of topics are contained. I also think that these magazines are kept quite simple which are easy to read as well.
I really like this magazine because everything are kept on one side and I think it looks simplest which i really would like to keep my magazine front cover simple as possible this is because the readers can read it easily and is I think quite simple.
So from these magazine research I am going to take the idea of these 5 magazines and make it into my original style of House music magazine.
Masthead research
This research which I have done is to find the idea to
see what style of masthead I would like to use in my own music magazine
and as you can see i have picked out two different type of magazine with simple
masthead. I really like the top magazine's masthead because it is very simple
and is very modern and stylish also i think it is very easy to read.
Again the bottom two magazine's has simple masthead and
is easy to read, stylish and modern. I really like the way that masthead is
highlighted with bright colours because that also makes the masthead stand out
as well, however I think that I will have to be careful with the colours
because if two colours has no contrast then the masthead will no stand out.

Before taking the photograph I decided to make a research to get the different ideas of how much I want to zoom in or out, what kind of style and how I should ask my model to dress up when taking the photograph. So, from this research I decided that I am going to ask my model to dress up in a casual and in a formal way because for my House music magazine I am going to call my magazine "SMART BEAT" which I would like to show the new style of house music magazine in a smart way so I want to try out the photographs in two different ways. And these photographs on the top are the style I would like to take photos which I am going to take as my inspiration when taking photographs.
Content page inspiration
This is my content page research I made to get the idea of how I should layout my content page. In my music magazine I would like to keep everything simple whole way through but include all relevant headlines and informations that the readers willing to read. So in this research I picked out few different type of magazine but all the magazine's content page I picked out are kept simple, easy to read and they are in modern style. I am going to take the inspirations of how they have laid out the content page and how it's designed when I am going to create my own content page.
Double spread page inspiration
These are my double spread page research I made and I really like the way that they are all keeping the photo on one side and the text on another side also it is easy to read which is because it is kept as simple layout and these layout how they made double spread page are something that I would like to do so, I am going to take these double spread page layout as my inspiration of producing my own double spread page.
The treatment
Target readership:
“SMART BEAT” is a new music magazine aimed at female and male teens that enjoy listening to House music and is going to show new style of house music (electronic, dub step, techno etc.) which the theme is going to be listen to the house music in a smart way and be stylish. Reader is aimed to be a 22-30 however, it could be anyone else as my magazine covers has a lot about house music. My magazine will cost £8.50. The reader of the magazine is going to expect to see a new house music superstar on the front cover and a lot of show off. My reader will have a strong sense of fashion and always desire the latest music and clothes. Also most of my readers will be business man because usually house music is for the teenagers or the young adults who likes to go for clubbing, partying etc, so , I would like to make new kind of house music magazine that is not only for the teenagers and young adults. And I want to recommend especially to the businessman who looks serious and smart can listen to house music in smart ways. For the other main I would like to write about DJ's life and the interviews.
Form and style:
“SMART BEAT” is a full color magazine that contains house music celebrities interviews, fashion, news and reviews of new albums. Front covers are going to include young DJ that has a very perspective future and very famous in house music world.In my magazine there will have less cover lines. As I said before the price will be £5.50, which is good price to make a nice looking magazine.
Themes and typical features:
“SMART BEAT” will have a lot of regular features typical to a house music magazine and showing how to listen house musics in different ways. Every issue of my magazine will include an interview with a different DJ’s, reviews of new albums and some fashion updates. There will be a strong focus on superstars such as TIESTO, SKRILLEX, AVICII, AFROJACK, DEADMAUS, etc; as these people have a good sense of fashion, brilliant music’s and they are nice and wouldn't mind to be interviewed. Last pages of the magazine will include some reviews of coming up DJ’s so the reader can develop his/her house music knowledge wider and wider as he/she reads “SMART BEAT” The writers will use language familiar to the target audience's so it will magazine as interesting as it is possible.
Potential advertise:
“SMART BEAT” will include some adverts in it but not as much a typical music magazine has, as it is annoys the reader. However, there are some exceptions such as a specific music album or artist's clothing shop that covers up our topics (Fashion, Album reviews and etc.). We also will advertise iTunes albums so it is easier for the audience to download music they might need, however most of the advertisements are not going to be on the front cover.
Editorial team:
The editorial team will be made up of experienced and talented writers who might have worked or been taught by people who worked in a famous/leading house music magazine. Mostly, writers must be very creative and have a good imagination and know how to attract the target audience.
Masthead decision:
I decided to call my magazine "SMART BEAT" because I would like to bring new style of house music which is being smart but also listens to the crazy beat in a formal way and by calling it "SMART BEAT" I think that the readers who likes to listen house musics will be attracted wanting to know new house music trends.
